ACCOMMODATION:

Administration Section is now installed in the ground floor of the C.S.0. Building, Lower Albert Road, whilst the Executive Sub-departments of the Buildings & Lands; Harbour, Airport & Tunnels; Crown Lands & Surveys and Waterworks Sections are now accommodated in St. George's Building, Chater Road, with the Roads & Drainage Section in its old habitat at Lower Albert Road.

AIRPORT: Liaison has been maintained with the R.A.F. both at Kai Tak and in the New Territories, where the District Officer has been engaged in some preliminary negotiations.

BUILDINGS: A preliminary survey of dangerous buildings, which has been completed, is now being examined and preparations made for the serving of demolition notices in the more urgent cases.

Upon completion of works on the C.S.0. Building, the C.C.A.0. and the Secretariat are now accommodated on the two upper floors.

Some minor work was done at the Yokohama Specie Bank to accommodate the Treasury, and the Oriental Building to take the Police.

Repairs were undertaken at the following Government buildings: Peak Wireless Staion, Tsimshatsui Police Station, Cape D'Aguilar Wireless Station, Victoria Hospital, Kowloon Hospital, Yaumati Public Dispensary, with some minor works at Flagstaff House.

Work is proceeding at Rosary Hill, Northcote Training College, Soldiers & Sailors Home in Wanchai (for BORS), Nethersole and Ho Mui Ling Hospitals.

Much clearing work has been done to the buildings on Kowloon Wharves and minor essential repairs undertaken both at Kowloon and Holt's Wharves.

CLEARANCES: Twenty-one (21) clearances have been made on roads in Hong Kong, with four (4) in New Kowloon and at numerous places in the New Territories.

Clearance of a dangerous slip on the Bowen Road conduit is being undertaken and repairs effected.

Much silt and debris has been removed from catch waters and conduits, Attention to others requiring clearances is being continued, and repairs at Beacon Hill and north conduit are in hand.

CONTRACTS: Such maintenance contracts which had been entered into expired on 31st. October, 1945. It will now be necessary to continue our work at the official labour rates plus percentage but it is considered that generally this is an inducement to slackness, owing to the critical shortage of supervisory staff. It is hoped to make a return to the contract system as soon as adequate supervisory staff and executive staff become available.

DUMPING AREAS: These are being selected and steps taken to ensure that all debris is directed to them.

DRAINAGE: Major works in Hong kong under this head include repairs to main sewers of 12" and 18" diameter. Much help has been afforded by the R.A.F.

In Nathan Road, the temporary repairs undertaken by the Japanese to damage caused through a bomb falling, collapsed and over 70 feet of the road has had to be opened up to enable permanent repairs to be undertaken.

Several long connections have been remade in Kowloon. In the way of minor work, 165 drainage chokes have been cleared in Hong Kong and 260 in Kowloon.
